100 Themes Challenge #83 - "Lost"Oogway had quite taken to going to doing the shopping these days, in lieu of sending a servant out to do it. He admittedly enjoyed the chance to walk among the townfolk and see the village, especially since he'd taken in a cub that needed regular fresh air as well. He glanced over to a nearby cart to maintain a visual on his adopted son, finding the little lynx kitten right where he expected, using his humble allowance to buy some candied plums.
As he was carefully filing through the lettuce heads, his eyes caught a quick glance of a child up in the branches of a young, nearby tree. He didn't think much of it at first - children were always playing around the bushes and climbing the trees about the village. He continued his shopping, attention only breaking when he heard the child's voice.
"Mama! Ma--!" There was a subtle cracking noise, followed by a small yelp and the sound of something falling to the ground. The old master turned around quickly. The child - a little red panda cub, perhaps about 4 years old - was just sitting back up from his fall on the severed tree branch. Glancing up, his eyes quickly widened as they met the old tortoise's gaze. Quickly grabbing a little stuffed mouse doll he had dropped in the fall, he scurried behind the trunk of the tree.
Oogway blinked, taking a look around at the surrounding crowd to see if he saw any other red pandas, or at least someone who looked as if they were searching for a cub. Seeing no one and recalling the cub's calls for "Mama", his brow creased worriedly and he carefully approached the tree. The cub remained hidden, but his little ringed tail still stuck out from behind the trunk. The old master smiled gently, kneeling so that he didn't appear so huge and imposing to the child. "Hello, little one... No need to be scared of me..." he assured. "Are you looking for someone?"
At first, he received no response. Then - slowly, hesitantly - one big cobalt-blue eye peeked nervously out to study the stranger. The cub barely bobbed his head in response.
and I wrote an RP of this loooong ago.
I actually forget how exactly it went, but this is along the lines of what it was. And this is technically the first good look Oogway gets of little Koto - the start of a long relationship with the Chen family and - when you think about it - the first steps of the Dragon Warrior fulfillment getting into motion.
Koto is about 3 or 4 here.
