Contest Entry - Mistress Ade by FaithFirefly Contest Entry - Mistress Ade by FaithFirefly
A submission for "Ultimate Fandom Contest 4: Inspiration" - [link]
Source of inspiration: Dreamworks Animation's Kung Fu Panda
Genre: Movies

Even before I saw the movie, I was intrigued by the world that Kung Fu Panda presented - a world where humans don't exist, yet the animals inhabit and use the land as humans do. Yet, while wearing human clothing and running businesses, the creators still created these characters to have animal tendencies and not appear "too human". I loved the idea that just a frame in this movie told so much about the Chinese culture. The creators paid such fine detail down the advanced architecture of the Valley of Peace and the complicated designs of the individual characters' clothing, and used only animals unique to the country. I got to thinking one day: "So we've seen this world alive in Ancient China - what's going on in the rest of the world? Alpacas wearing striped shawls and chullo hats in Peru? A camel wearing traditional Egyptian clothing? There's so much more to be shown of this animals-as-humans world. :) I've always been fascinated with the vivid colors and designs of traditional African outfits, so I decided to adapt what I'd learned from the world of Kung Fu Panda and applied it to a different culture.

The name "Ade" means "peak, pinnacle, royal" (Found at [link])

OMG!!! I love your concept on this cheetah!!! Cheetahs are my favorite. I love the design on her and the clothing. I was wowed by this scene especially on how you rendered the tip of the tail from dark to a bit lighter. It really fits into the Tanzania mood, [where the Serengeti Nat. Park] takes place for Mistress Ade. I agree and absolutely appreciate your idea. She really should be part of the Kung Fu Panda film.

You're very welcome. My uncle has been there. It's the Serengeti national park in Tanzania. Also where Pride Rock was found and Mt. Kilimanjaro was made for the Disney film, Lion King. It's a wonderful place to see of the majority of African species in the animal kingdom.

She's very pretty, I love her outfit and jewelry, African? The colors on her outfit really jump out, the jig-jag stripes of green and then the dark blue is a great mix; looks very traditional.

Thanks! :hug: Yes, traditional African clothing is very bright and some have that tye-dye look to them - I just like blues and greens with a slightly warm color like purple to set it off. :D

This is wonderful! I had actually thought of the same thing myself, (about other cultures as seen through 'Kung Fu Panda' animal eyes) and had been toying with what the Middle Eastern/Near Eastern animals would have been like, and placing them in China as traders along the silk road. I never really paid any thought to African animals, and I really like the idea! You did a good job with Ade, she looks almost noble blooded! (if I may offer this tip, you could add some wrinkles and folds to the clothes, to provide more flow and movement to the character.)

Good thought!! :) I haven't thought much about the silk road, I've mainly saved the internationalism for the Ju-long Alliance, since they travel all around the world (which was relatively small in that time period) and therefore have recruits from all over. I do need to venture into different clothing and such for them, though. :shrug:

Thanks! :hug: I would've had more wrinkles and folds to the clothing if I knew how to without messing the pic up. ^^;

I've only recently started thinking about the silk road, and it's starting to appeal to me more and more for a potential KFP story line. :D I need to start reading some of your fics that has the Ju Long Alliance, I've only been reading your most recent fic so far!

I've only written 2 stories with them. ^^; But they're essentially pirates/nomads like the Huns, so I'd do research on them. :) I personally haven't researched them that much, 'cause I wanted the Alliance to be kinda their own thing. But they're very much like the Huns.
