Even before I saw the movie, I was intrigued by the world that Kung Fu Panda presented - a world where humans don't exist, yet the animals inhabit and use the land as humans do. Yet, while wearing human clothing and running businesses, the creators still created these characters to have animal tendencies and not appear "too human". I loved the idea that just a frame in this movie told so much about the Chinese culture. The creators paid such fine detail down the advanced architecture of the Valley of Peace and the complicated designs of the individual characters' clothing, and used only animals unique to the country. I got to thinking one day: "So we've seen this world alive in Ancient China - what's going on in the rest of the world? Alpacas wearing striped shawls and chullo hats in Peru? A camel wearing traditional Egyptian clothing? There's so much more to be shown of this animals-as-humans world. I've always been fascinated with the vivid colors and designs of traditional African outfits, so I decided to adapt what I'd learned from the world of Kung Fu Panda and applied it to a different culture.
