'You've Gone Too Far'

Drew this this morning in a fairly short amount of time. Making that "Life of Captain Chen Koto" folder has driven me to fill in the gaps! And you can't really tell here, but Yin's got her other paw on her baby's tummy, stroking his fur.

In ancient China, all living generations of one family lived in one house. Whenever a son got married, he continued to live with his parents and brought his wife to become part of the household. Though they are a traditional family, this pact broke fairly quickly once Koto and Yin had Shifu.

Like any two year-old, little Shifu hardly ever agrees to going to bed at the time his parents designated, and he is firmly determined one night that he won't do it. In his escape, however, he has an unfortunate run-in with Yeye (Grandfather) Qing, who proceeds to give the cub a smack on the paw with his switch for his defiance.

Koto and Yin are quite startled to see their cub come bawling and running back to them. Once they are able to extract from the poor cub as to what happened, Koto is enraged. Bound and determined that his son will not receive the same abuse from Qing that he had been succumbed to, Koto storms out to confront his father, so livid that Yin has to confront him beforehand - just to make sure things don't blow up. After Yin comforts Shifu and gets him dressed for bed, Koto comes back with a single red mark on his cheek from a literal slap across the face. Though Qing seems to have once again won the fight, the elder red panda moves to his own small house - much to the small family's relief.
